The picture is explicit by design, and the design is the point. This is an image made to be sold, and it does what a scene cannot: it fixes a persona in a single frame, before anything moves. The pose is frontal and unembarrassed, the gaze level, the body offered without coyness. In the early 1980s that directness was a commercial language of its own. A distributor could put a face like that on a box and let the customer do the rest, and the performers who understood the transaction were the ones who lasted.
